We purchased Bessie’s Inn, not to start a business, but rather to save a piece of local history. And boy, did we discover some history!

In the beginning of our Inn adventure, we hoped to restore this old house. Much to our disappointment, restoration was cost prohibitive. The front of the house is part of the original foot print and remains, visually, much as it did in the early 1900s. Our research has yet to give us the actual date of construction. The front of the house was well constructed back in the day. However, the back of the house was an addition. It was constructed like a barn. It was too close to the ground. Rot was beginning to set in.

The building inspector and contractor could not, in good faith, go ahead with renovating the back section. So, it came down. Soon, we could see through the house. It was sad. But, on the upside, we gained almost 500 square feet. This made the house into a very comfortable, roomy Inn.

The decision to create an “Inn” came quickly after the purchase. The history that began to surface was fascinating. Visitors at the Inn will have a chance to review the history, as it will be displayed throughout the house. If you book a stay, you can take a walk back through time. It will be awhile before all the history is on display.

Bessie’s Inn sits on 2/3s of an acre, right in town. It is child and pet friendly. There is wheelchair access to the downstairs bedrooms, bathroom and common areas.

Bessie’s Inn has 4 chambers, 2 bathrooms, a full service kitchen and a parlor downstairs as well as one upstairs. It rents as a unit. Guests have the opportunity to chose which room or rooms they would like.

We began hosting guests in October 2020. Staging the fun parts of unearthed history was a journey in itself.

The community has been very supportive regarding this project. Huntsville is a small town which offers everything one needs for a pleasant stay. The location is perfect to access the many treasures of the Ozarks. Comfortably sleeping 10 people, Bessie’s will be a perfect place for families to gather.

Now, in the time of Covid-19 the Inn makes more sense than ever. As you travel or have an event, Bessie’s will host only your group. The house and yard are spacious. So, take a break, come stay.

We look forward to hearing from you.
